Drawing on these 2 articles and my professional experience spanning two decades, I have listed 3 tips I would highly recommend to older adults who are interested in incorporating exercise into their daily lives:
- Get Medical Clearance – By checking in with your doctor before you start you will know which forms of exercise are safe and which ones to avoid.
- Start Slow & Build Up Steadily – By starting slow you will have an opportunity to exercise in a way that allows you to be in charge and take on more in a more balanced way that’s right for you.
- Get Support – When you work out with a friend or family member you will have an opportunity to motivate and encourage one another. It’s also great to have someone who is counting on you to be present with them.
It’s been proven exercise becomes more important to your overall health as you age. There are so many different options to choose from, which make it easy to select ones you enjoy and incorporate them into your daily lifestyle. It also enables you to take more control of your life and be able to do different things you like. Lastly, exercise allows you to live an overall more fulfilling and healthier life.
